Mr. President,

By means of this letter and according to the spirit of Law 22/2003 of 4th July, on the Protection of Animals in Catalonia, I request you not to spare the Government you preside any effort, through the appropiate Ministries and Departments, and according to the majority support of the Catalonian citizens, in order to definitely close the facilities of Noveprim Europe Ltd. in Camarles (Tarragona), a place where primates from Mauritius come into EU to be later distributed, from Catalonia, to vivisection laboratories worldwide.

It must be said that this request of mine bears in mind the precedents in other countries where the authorities intervened to seize, rescue and officially protect, primates imported with the same vivisectionist aim. The macaques, as primates, are a species particularly close to the human one, showing an own culture. They have been studied by scientists all over the world even before the discovering of the same ability in chimpazees.

I trust that the Generalitat of Catalonia, in the wake of what it did in the past, when defending the rights of the citizens of Camarles not to have this kind of farms in their town, will mediate now to guarantee the security and safeguard of these animals, whether of by its own accord or collaborating with a protection society which, in due course, would be able to relocate them in specialized sanctuaries.

Allow me to conclude this letter with the wish that the Generalitat of Catalonia will maintain the same impelling resolve towards the welfare of animals and the legal reinforcement of their protection, that turned the Catalan Community into a model for the rest of Spain and for Europe,
