This good-looking dog, big for his ages, is "Lucas". He arrived in February 1999.

Do you want to adopt or sponsor an animal of the Cervelló Shelter?

The Pets Shelter of Baix Llobregat and Barcelonés (Barcelona) owning the Cervelló Shelter (then with 450 animals), integrated into Fundación Altarriba in July 2003, after proposal put to the vote by its members and approved two days before.

Today, more than 500 animals are sheltered here, due to the arrival of big groups of animals in one go, among other reasons.

Since then, Cervelló Shelter faces some wide and expensive reforming works, in a progression linked to our means. Roughly speaking, these works will-be or are-already: operating and stay rooms, repairs to the access road and asphalted if possible, a water-treatment plant, game areas, new facilities for the animals and pulling down the old ones, etc.

Our dogs

We have more than 200 dogs sheltered, and some of then arrived long time ago. There is almost any breed and mixed, age, color, temperament, size and origin.

Most of them, as it could be saddly imagined, come from the two classical reasons to abandon: holidays and the death of the owner. In both cases, a family couldn't care less for the future of the dog, if he survives or dies: a family has decided above all that the dog gets in the way.

Caly, a big love whose owner died. 11 years old but still teaching joy exists.

Duna. Abandoned with an untreated broken paw that had to be later amputated.
Sultán. Another owner died trusting in his still living relatives and then heirs...

Dogs adopted here are vaccinated, microchiped and, if the age allows it, also neutered.

Our cats

In Cervelló Shelter we have always have a weakness for cats and, in fact, they are the largest population.

One of the most relevant points to identify Cervello Shelters is that cats with possitive testing results live toghether, grouped according to their disease. They enjoy here a peaceful life, cared for, with covered areas and garden, medicated and with no health risk to other cats or to themselves.

And they are also adopted, by the way, by wonderful people who have no other cat or who already have one suffering from the same disease.

The Cats of the Harbor of Barcelona

The relocation of these cats is one of the most difficult rescue operations we have ever faced. After a hard work, more than 200 cats have been moved to Cervelló Shelter from the breakwater, a place where they had been surviving just thanks to the individual effort of private volunteers.

For years, inhabitants of Barcelona have abandoned their cats between those cement blocks, and there the animals have been suffering poundings from waves, weather, cars and hooligans.

For many months a wide rescue operation has been carried out, catching and taking them to their new and exclusive facilities in Cervelló Shelter. They arrived in small groups to their new home where, after a checkup, were left well alone to calm down and get used to us and to the new surroundings at their own pace.

Views of their facilities. The open country is accesible and some of them already go out for short walks.

Our members and sponsors

Last Sunday May 7th Cervelló Shelter held a country picnic, as last year, and more than 100 friends came to spend with the animals the "Mother's Day".
